about Logari
"Logari is a nutrition center, which is founded by me, Hamilaki Katerina, for developing healthy nutrition habits in the rural areas of my homeland.
It is consisted by a traditional distillery of grapes, a charcoal furnace, a winepress, a restaurant and an open kitchen.
Groups of pupils, as well as tourists, can attend the proceedings producing various dishes in the open kitchen.
Kate’s cooking lessons refer to the good nutrition habits from the past, framed in the Cretan territory and the biologically cultivated goods and nature’s substances.
My purpose is the essential revival of the traditionally tested ways of life and of the cultural actions and creations."
- Katerina Hamilaki
metaphorically, "width of the earth".
Logari is located in the village Katalagari, which is 15 km from Iraklion on the road of Knossos-Iraklion. It was established in 2001, through the developing programs of Leader, from mrs Katerina Hamilaki, who is an expert in hotel services and catering. Her intention was to show and promote our customs through the Cretan diet.
On the groundfloor of the building you can find a traditional cauldron, which produces raki and it is open every year, from the end of October until the end of December. Also there is an exhibition place with items which are used by the Cretans for various works.
On the first floor of the building, where the restaurant is based, people who love and respect this land are offering hospitality. In the same floor you can attend some presentations and lessons of Cretan nourishment.
